This journey here on earth is difficult and God created family to help and support each other along the way, having said that though, no family is perfect because humans are not perfect. Unfortunately, nearly everyone at some point in their lives will betray, hurt or disappoint a family member. In some cases, for our own mental health, it becomes necessary to distance ourselves from them. But in all cases, God requires us to forgive. Now that doesn't mean that He expects us to be best friends and hang out, but the Bible does tell us that unless we forgive others, He will not forgive us. It's very clear that without forgiveness, we lose out on eternal life. We need to ask ourselves, is revenge really worth missing out on heaven? Instead of harboring bitterness, we need to give our pain to Jesus. If we are struggling with that, then we can pray and ask God to put forgiveness in our hearts, He will. Instead of allowing anger and bitterness to creep into our hearts, allow God to judge the ones who caused our pain. When we release our anger and truly forgive, we will no longer be dragged down by the weight of guilt. Instead, we'll feel like we are walking on air and our hearts will be rejoicing and singing praises to God.
